JAMES HALLIDAY AUSTRALIAN WINE COMPANION 2012 EDITION

2010 Deep Woods Estate Sauvignon Blanc *****

Pale quartz-green, the bouquet has intense aromas ranging from citrus and snow pea through to passionfruit, but it is the intensity, power, length and balance that resulted in it winning the trophy for the Best Sauvignon Blanc at the Margaret River Wine Show. Rating 95

2010 Deep Woods Ivory Semillon Sauvignon Blanc****½ Rating 90

WINE 100, JANUARY–FEBRUARY 2011

2007 Deep Woods Estate Block 7 Shiraz

Deep Woods has done well with this 08 Margaret River Shiraz – it smells of spicy dark berries and carries a meaty edge with toasty oak too. It rolls through on fine, even tannins delivering supple and dark berry flavours – a mid-weight take.

JOHN JENS, WESTERN SUBURBS WEEKLY, JANUARY 2011

Delicious white out of the woods

The Deep Woods 2010 Sauvignon Blanc is the most exciting and delicious Australian sauvignon blanc that I have tried in years and it easily holds its own with virtually any of New Zealand’s equivalents at any price, let alone one that sells at well under $25, as this one does. Zesty citrus, passionfruit and herbal aromas are combined with hints of toast and gunflint. The palate exhibits clean passionfruit and citrus flavours. Textural elements contributed by less stirring and barrel fermentation give rise to a multi-dimensional wine. There is a core of cleansing natural acidity that provides freshness and poise with a persistent and flavoursome finish.

The Deep Woods Sauvignon Blanc 2010 was the wine that won a gold medal and then the trophy at Adelaide this year and then followed up later in the year with a gold and again the trophy for best sauvignon blanc at the 2010 Margaret River Wine Show. It deserves them. 18.1 points, RRP $22–$25

Fresh Summer Wine Guide

Under $15

2010 Deep Woods Ivory Semillon Sauvignon Blanc ($14.95)

Fresh crunchy vibrant blend with abundant lively tropical flavours balanced by an appealing herbaceousness. It’s balanced and flavoursome with a crisp finishing acid. Just a little squeeze of lime juice livens up the palate.

$25 to $40

2010 Deep Woods Estate Sauvignon Blanc ($25)

Terrific wine from this Margaret River producer which goes from strength to strength. Plenty of tropical gooseberry and melon fruit with a light dusting of herbs. Fills the mouth with lovely generous flavours but the splash of lemon juice and lively acid sustains it to a long finish.

Varietal tasting

2008 Deep Woods Block 7 Margaret River Shiraz ****½

One for the lovers of cooler-climate shiraz. Excellent fruit cake-like aromas. Interesting palate showing a lovely spicy edge and fabulous flavour length.

PETER FORRESTAL, STM, THE SUNDAY TIMES, JUNE 2010

2010 Deep Woods Ivory Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Delightfully floral, fresh and lively, with nectarine and passionfruit flavours and zippy, cleansing acidity to finish.
